EDIT: The fixed version is already approved and available, thanks to the app review team for accepting an expedited review request once again.

New version has been submitted to App Store fixing the following bugs:
  • Fixed crash when closing designations/buildings menu with Close button
  • Fixed map not being shown until tileset is selected in settings
  • Fixed “All” always being shown for some categories in stockpile settings
  • Fixed crashes when manipulating rows in servers list view
  • Fixed crash when selecting the currently selected civ on embark
  • Fixed crash when adjusting FPS before current value has been loaded from server
  • Fixed crashes when pressing Confirm button on some of the military screens without selecting an item
Now it’s all in hands of the review team. I’m sorry about all these crashes present in first versions.

Fixed several more app crashes. This time it will take some time for the new version to be approved. Most notably, there’s a nasty crash when closing a designations or buildings menu with the Close button. If you want to close the menu without selecting a designation, just select any and cancel it to avoid the crash for now. Also, some users reported an issue when the map stays black after connecting to a server, but buttons and menus work. Reportedly, this can be fixed by going to Settings menu and choosing a tileset (even if there’s only the default one in the list). I’m also fixing things in server code if needed, you will be asked to update next time you connect to a server.

As usual, releasing an app to masses revealed some bugs, including crashes. I’ve already submitted an update, and will try to fix problems as sook as possible in future, however the App Store review process will delay updates a bit. Bugs on the server side will be fixed much faster because of the automatic update functionality of the server component. First, unfortunately, iTunes File Sharing was not enabled properly, so you can not install new tilesets or colour schemes. Hope you like Spacefox 🙂 There’s also a crash when changing stockpile max barrel/bin settings and closing the view right after. Number of other less critical bugs have been fixed as well. I ask everyone experiencing crashes to contact me via and tell what they were doing, because it is not always easy or even possible to determine from the crash log.

Dwarf Fortress is an open-ended fantasy world simulation/management game from Bay 12 Games, which is free and in constant development since 2002. Permission for Dwarf Fortress Remote

Several people have recommended me lately to ask for a permission from Dwarf Fortress authors if I’m going to release the DF Remote app.

I can assure you that it’s been discussed with Toady in the beginning of the development, as well as I’ve made him aware of the upcoming release recently. What people can do is to remember to support Bay 12 Games if they enjoy playing Dwarf Fortress - using DF Remote or not, and also that Toady should not be bothered with any issues related to DF Remote.

I think I’ve finished development of Dwarf Fortress Remote for iOS for now. Below is the list of things that will most likely be missing from the first release. They may be important for advanced players but anyway I expect there will be bugs and more things I’ve forgotten about, so I will implement remaining features along with bug fixes. There will be no support for workshop profiles, stockpile-workshop links, hauling side menu, routes creation. Stockpile settings are somewhat incomplete (third level of settings is not available, whatever it is on it). Some other minor things may be missing here and there but they should not affect gameplay that much. Also, embarks larger than 5 embark tiles are not supported, and no creature graphics and multi-level rendering, however these are likely to be fixed in first place. Now I just need to do more testing and fix some non-gameplay related issues like UI on iPad, proper error messages, automatic check for server updates and so on. Then I will send the application to App Store for review and in the meanwhile will complete work on installation instructions and in-game help (remember, there is/will be short help for each screen, building and other gameplay elements).
